The manager of the German national football side, Joachim Löw, swapped his boots for golf shoes when he visited Golf Son Gual, in Mallorca, for a photoshoot and press conference.

The plush Mallorcan venue was chosen for its elegance and stunning vistas – and of course the desirable climate.

The photoshoot was for a German magazine and a credit card company, but the presence of one of world football’s most instantly recognisable coaches went largely unnoticed by those using the Thomas Himmel-designed course or sipping an ice-cold drink on the terrace, for they are used to moving in exalted company.

World number one tennis star Rafael Nadal often visits for golf coaching, while one of his predecessors at the top of the tennis tree, German superstar Boris Becker, has also been known to pop in for a round.

British celebrities – including Goldenballs star Jasper Carrott and former England footballer Jamie Redknapp – can often be spotted playing 18 holes during a visit to the island, as the course’s reputation spreads further.

Son Gual’s managing director, Andreas Pamer, said: “We were delighted Golf Son Gual was chosen for this photoshoot and we believe we may see more camera crews in the coming months as we have been contacted by other agencies.
“We are lucky in that we have a stunning golf course in a magnificent setting with excellent weather – pretty much exactly what agencies desire.”

It would also appear to be what’s desired by the island’s golfers as debentures for Golf Son Gual have been selling steadily over the past couple of months. The debentures are valid for life, transferable and cover spouse and all children under 21 years of age.
